EL PUERTO de SANTA MARIA
The ferry from El Puerto de Santa Maria TO Cadiz !
This is where we are based. A town of about 80,000 inhabitants which grows during July/August with the influx of those seeking the comparative coolness of the Atlantic coast and the sea, from the high temperatures experienced inland ! Whilst the historical connections with the sea and the great explorations of the 15th and 16th centuries are well remembered; the town today boasts a modern 'urbanisation' along the coast to the west to cater for the demands of the holiday maker, as well as the local inhabitants. The town has a variety of excellent restaurants and bars and is regarded as a focal point for evening entertainments and relaxation, especially in those summer months. The local town authority has some excellent pages of description in English to be found at this web site :

Apart from the facilites in the Town, including the modern shopping mall with multi screen cinema and McDonalds ! most visitors come for the beaches. These stretch either side of the port, for many miles, with the nearest beach (the town beach) - Playa de la Puntilla - within walking distance.
On the other side of the port there is the fairly modern purpose built holiday resort known as VALDELAGRANA with apartments and hotels.
Town shops
The town has many shops and some very beautiful classic buildings with inner courtyards. Always something to discover and enjoy. Then there are the many BODEGAS which are very busy producing the Sherries and Brandy including the famous OSBORNE brand - the company's black bull Logo can be seen in certain strategic roadside locations in Spain !And as the town lies on Cadiz Bay, at the mouth of the river Guadelete, there is an active Yacht Club and the Puerto Sherry marina attracts many cruisers and yachts taking advantage of the sheltered bay.
A wonderful place all the year round.
